THE OTHER VANCOUVER

Washington state, not BC. We've been chilling before boarding paddle steamer. Had a wander around the historic district, down officers row where the army base was, including Useless S Grant (ncs proper) house, he was top Civil War general & president. This was the first germany settlement in the NW coast after Geo Vancouver survey & Hudson's Bay built a fort & corner shop. Saw a 2 mile long train go by, long wait at the level crossing. Dinner at Joe's Crab Shack, the 44oz of beer weighed heavy during the night - ah well, never learns does he. Like their salmon here, even got statues to it.

HOODOO THEN VOODOO

Paul has set his alarm for 2am. We went to Voodoo do'nuts but the queue was mahoosive. It is open 24 hours, hence the early alarm, when the queue may be less. Got away with the weather & spent day walking around town. Went to river front Sat market which has loads of art & craft stalls. Went on to Pioneer Sq, where a nice girl gave me the message & a sweetie. Next stop was the biggest book shop in the world, followed by the Lan Su Chinese garden. Very nice tranquil garden. We had a poetry reading with Oolong tea. The reader had a speech defect, which together with my hearing defect made the whole thing a bit of a mystery to me.

WAITING FOR 160 ACRES

Lovely time, busy week. In the olden days if you were in the Mounties for 5 years you got 160 acres at the end. Paul & I signed up, so let's wait & see. Went to High River where they make loads of TV & Movies Inc Heartland, Fargo, Unforgiven & Superman III. Took in a drive-in film at Gas Alley museum and watched Cat, Sophia & El jumping. Lin's got a new friend for her selfies. Off to Portland tomorrow, rain, rain, rain.

HOODOO ON ANT?

Spent the night in Banff, which is a lovely town in a Rockies valley, complete with sulphur spas, quaint shops & bars. Nice walk around the mountains and saw the hoodoos which are eroded rock formations that project from the bedrock. Went on to Lake Miniwanka (say nothing) which is a flooded valley covering a village and was part of a hydroelectric project. Ant took the voodoo sour apple sweet challenge - you can see the result. He lasted about 45 seconds. Ant & the boys went home in the sports car, the girls in the truck. After about 45 mins of breaking the speed limit Ant caught up with Cat, even though we started at the same time. "What the f..." said A, & the pedal went to the floor, we arrived home 26 seconds before the girls. Ant's put the sports car up for sale.

Is there a hoodoo on Ant, only time will tell.
